The event underscored three major trends driving Asia’s economic landscape: urbanisation, industrial modernisation, and green technology. With Asia’s urban population rising from 40% in 1990 to 48% in 2022, the demand for advanced infrastructure and smart environmental solutions is surging. This urban growth presents significant opportunities for Austrian companies specialising in these sectors.

Industrial modernisation was another focal point, with discussions on the increasing complexity of products and the growing need for high-tech equipment. Austrian companies, known for their expertise in plastic and metal processing, are well-positioned to meet this demand.

Philipp Gady, Vice President of WKÖ, emphasised the strategic importance of Asia for Austria’s export economy. He highlighted the robust growth of Austrian exports to Asia, which have increased from €11.5 billion to €16.4 billion over the past decade. China remains the largest market, followed by Japan, South Korea, India, and Taiwan.

Future Prospects

The event also spotlighted the upcoming EXPO 2025 in Osaka, Japan, as a significant opportunity for Austrian businesses. The “Road to Expo” initiative aims to maximise the benefits of this global event for Austria’s economy.
